A kind person that might resemble your mom.
Nobul is a kind and friendly dwarf from Harmaalinna, a dwarven village about 150 miles south from Whiteford.
Her family was well-known in the village for generations. Her male relatives were always involved in politics, while her female relatives were deeply religious. The main religion that people in Harmaalinna follow is the Church of the Bright Star.
Nobul was also a proud member of that Church. As a kid, she got her basic education from the Church members. Her abilities to manipulate plants and natural elements with magical power were by some considered a blessing. However, family pressure and social status forced her to conceal her magic skills and concentrate on her position in the Church exclusively.
As the years passed, it was clear that Nobul´s family had started to lose its reputation. The dwarven trait of arrogance and greed was the reason to cause the family´s slow fall. Nobul though was unable to help the situation, as she was not perceived capable of being involved in politics or financial issues. She remained a silent figure, who either prayed and helped in the religious community or raised her younger siblings as they grew up.
Over time, it wasn´t only her family status that changed for the worse. The Shadowlands, something unknown to simple-minded dwarves, were moving closer to their borders. Little by little, nature seemed as if it was dying. Once the citizens noticed, they sent scouts to the dark forest, which was spreading to the southwest. The scouts never returned.
At least not alive.
Corpse-like creatures attacked the village one day. The dwarves were not prepared for such an incident. Properties were ruined, innocent people died or became corrupted.
Nobul tried to save her siblings. Her parents didn´t make it. She ran to the Church, where she got instructions on how to go to a safer place. That place was called Whiteford.
She walked alone with her two younger siblings for several days, until they found a small village, where lumberjacks lived. Nobul trusted them to take care of her brother and sister, as she would travel alone to Whiteford. She had to gather information about the Shadowlands, she had to become stronger, so she can return and save them from that mysterious, deadly threat.
